30 Carbs Per Meal?!?

I went in to see the dietitian and came out feeling a bit overwhelmed. Starvation was looking like a good option at that point. I get 5 small meals a day with 30 carbs at each meal. Well that's fine and dandy but have you actually ever really read food labels?!?

1 Large Apple=30 grams of carbs
1 banana=30 grams of carbs
1 cup of cooked veggies=10 carbs
2 pieces of bread=30 carbs
1/2 cup of granola=30 carbs
6 oz of baked potato=30 carbs
2 cups of 1% Milk=30 carbs
Here is my favorite:
2 inch brownie=30 carbs

Are you serious?!? A 2 inch brownie (that is basically one bite) is a full meal?!? One apple is supposed to be an entire meal?

This morning I started testing my blood sugar. The dietitian said I should do it 11 times a day...we'll see how long I can endure that. My poor little fingers are already mad at me. I was a little discouraged because I only had a 20 carb breakfast and my blood sugar was just barely under my maximum. Thankful it went way down for my next few pokes.

Although I am completely amazed by all these numbers I am more amazed that I have actually been able to stick to it. It takes a lot more effort and planning but I'm trying really hard and believe survival is a possibility. :)

Eventful...

We had such a fun weekend. Friday night we went to the BYU men's volleyball game. They beat Pepperdine 3 games to 1. This weekend we also got to go to Tucano's for Bry's birthday month. I don't have much room in my stomach but it was delicious! We got registered for the baby. We also had our second 3D ultrasound...I'll share that story when we actually get a good 3D picture of the little guy. We go in for try number 3 tomorrow...

Why do they hate the dentist?

I went nearly 25 years without a single cavity, thus never understanding why people hated the dentist so badly. Today I learned why... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? I look like I have paralysis! My right eye was even numb and droopy. Bryan came into work to get our car keys and he laughed until he cried. The compassion runs deep in our relationship.

Bye-Bye Love (Sugar)

I think Ray Charles says it best:
Bye bye love
Bye bye happiness
Hello loneliness, I think I'm gonna cry.

The results are back--and I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I still haven't quite figured out how I am going to survive without not only sugar but my beloved carbohydrates. Anyone who knows me knows I would pick pasta and bread over a good steak any day! This is going to be a HUGE change for me, but all things considered I'm feeling really blessed because my levels weren't high enough that I need insulin injections.
After reading all the complications that diabetes can cause in the baby after birth I think I have been scared into saying goodbye to my dear love--sugar. We have truly had a great relationship over the last 24 years and you will be greatly missed, but you are not more important than my baby.

So bye bye ice cream, and cookies, and chocolate, and sour patch kids, and chewy granola bars, and pasta, and croissants.....Hello Dietitian.

A Lawyer Story...

My Aunt sent this to me and it just made me so proud that my husband will be a lawyer someday. :)

Charlotte, North Carolina. A lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars, then insured them against, among other things, fire. Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars and without yet having made even his first premium payment on the policy the lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company. In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost "in a series of small fires."

The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason, that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion. The lawyer sued, and WON!

(Stay with me.)

Delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. The judge stated nevertheless, that the lawyer held a policy from the company, which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them against fire, without defining what is considered to be unacceptable fire" and was obligated to pay the claim.
Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the lawyer for his loss of the cigars lost in the "fires".

NOW FOR THE BEST PART.

After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had himArrested on 24 counts of ARSON! !! With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine.

"I Miss Back When"

So, Ashley is forcing me to put a post up on her blog instead of Counter Point. According to her, nobody reads Counter Point -- and what I have to say she wants everyone to read. Apparently if I want people to know something, it doesn't matter who reads it and when. But when she wants people to read something, time is of the essence. And I don't blame her in this case.

Before I cast my pearls before you, I want you to play that Tim McGraw song "I Miss Back When" in your head (You know which one: "Back when a hoe was a ho/ Coke was a Coke . . ."). For those of you who don't know it, it is about how words today have taking on some new meanings. So, this evening I open up Ashley's blog because she told me that she put up a post about something I said. Taking Ashley's track record on quoting me under consideration, I decided to do a little fact-checking. What I read was probably one of the funniest things Ashley has ever posted.

The first line of her post used to read something like: The other night Bryan came home from Elder's Quarum Dodge Ball and wanted to "hang out." Then it continued as it now reads. Well, I don't know if it is just my perverse mind, but by her putting hang out in quotes led me think she meant to imply something a little more PG-13 than what I actually wanted to do -- which was make fun or her/talk (okay, nowadays it would just be a little more PG). I started laughing and Ashley started freaking out! She was so mortified. Things got even better when she realized that people had already read the post and commented on it. She had me edit the post immediately and then ordered me to put my post up on her blog (which properly belongs on the must-read that is Counter Point).

Now when you read the first paragraph of her post (just below this one), read as though she had kept "hang out" in there. It makes the story much funnier than the way she told it, which is how it actually was.

Bryan out!
